SMI - Standard multilayer image
Standard Layer 3 image, including Routing Information Protocol Version 1 (RIPv1), RIPv2, static routes, AppleTalk, and Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX) software routing
EMI - Enhanced multilayer image
Enhanced Layer 3 image, including Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System (IS-IS), and Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Border Gateway Protocol ( BGP)
